Photosensitization, Big Head in Sheep
by Dr. Kennedy
This condition is a reaction between the ingredients in certain plants and the sun. These happen to belong to us. The first and hopefully the last that I have experienced.
Light pigmented animals are susceptible. These two animals were removed from the pasture and housed out of the sun and apparently have recovered.
Antibiotics and corticosteroids were the first line treatment. Diuretics and antihistamines were also used.

Photos are as first removed from pasture mid recovery several weeks later in a recovery phase. |
